The star of the brand, now even stronger. The upgraded sports car debuts with numerous design and performance highlights and an exclusive Black Edition that reaches up to 270 km/h. With a maximum output of 245 kW as standard, the Golf R sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, making it the most powerful Golf of all time.

Book a test drive Ask a questionThe new Golf R stands out with its unique "R"-specific details, lending to its distinctive and iconic aesthetic.
A sport chassis that offers a smoother ride, increased stability, and better handling for a more thrilling driving experience.
The most powerful engine of its series yet and an all-wheel drive system that gives better stability, especially when taking corners at high speeds.
Self-confident down to the last detail: a new front section with air curtains and unmistakable lighting design, combined with the “R”-specific side sills, exterior mirror caps, the lower section of the rear apron and the four-flow exhaust system, create an independent exterior look that sets the Golf R apart from the other R models.
The 2.0L four cylinder turbo petrol engine of the new Golf R represents the most powerful evolutionary stage of the engine series, and unleashes outstanding dynamics in almost every driving situation. The acceleration is very impressive, with a maximum power output of 245 kW and 420Nm of torque catapulting the new Golf R from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. With the Black Edition, the Golf R can reach top speeds of 270 km/h.
The 4MOTION all-wheel drive of the new Golf R utilises R-Performance Torque Vectoring, which is already familiar from its predecessor. This allows the drive power to be variably distributed between the front and rear axles and also between the left and right rear wheels. The result: agile driving behaviour and more stability when cornering at higher speeds.
There's something to listen to here. From as low as 2,500 rpm, the typical racing “backfire” can be heard on the outside, which is produced when the engine switches to overrun mode, i.e. when the throttle is released. A sound actuator also ensures that it sounds rougher on the inside.
The range of driving modes is expanding: in addition to the already familiar “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Race” and “Individual” driving profiles, the new Golf R now has the “Eco” driving profile. After a brisk sprint, this mode allows you to slow down a little and make your leisurely journeys more energy-efficient.
The Golf R interior is designed for comfort and style, featuring ergonomic 'R' Nappa leather seats with blue stitching and a carbon-look finish. Highlights include a multi-function sports steering wheel with larger DSG shift paddles, ambient lighting with 30 color options, and exclusive "R" details like door trims, floor mats, and stainless steel accents.
Put your skills to the test on the racetrack and record your lap time with the GPS lap timer. This is how it works: the system uses satellite signals to record the start and finish points the first time you drive your chosen route. You can also set up to three intermediate destinations. From the next lap onwards, the system automatically tracks and saves the times at the defined measuring points. After crossing the finish line, the last and the fastest lap are displayed with the respective split times of the individual measuring points.
Put your driving skills to the test and experience pure driving pleasure with the accelerometer. It offers three different modes: 0 to 100 km/h, 80 to 120 km/h and the quarter mile. The benefits of the accelerometer: you can not only test the performance of the Golf R, but also learn more about weather, tyre and road surface influences that affect the acceleration behaviour.
Various features of the sport chassis of the Golf R ensure greater stability, ride comfort and better road holding through state-of-the-art tech such as the intelligent driving dynamics manager, the standard adaptive chassis control (DCC), and the individual ESC control.
The Golf R is equipped with 19-inch "Estroril" alloy wheels with a high sheen surface, or in an all-black trim on the Black Edition. All wheels are fitted with a centre cap which for the first time features the 'R' logo instead of the 'VW' emblem. The blue-painted brake callipers with the “R”-logo are recognisable behind all rims.

The Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) is designed to provide a standardised measurement and enables the consumer to make reliable comparisons between vehicles in terms of energy (fuel and/or electricity) consumption, emissions, and electric vehicle range. However, it should be noted that the results of this test may not accurately reflect the actual fuel consumption, emissions, or range that a driver might experience in the real world. Actual results may vary depending on various factors such as driving style, road conditions, temperature, weather, vehicle load, and maintenance. Therefore, the WLTP results should be considered as an indicator of the vehicle's performance and not as a guarantee of the actual energy consumption, emissions, or range that a driver will experience in real-world driving conditions, or for making a vehicle-to-vehicle comparison. All WLTP test values are provided in accordance with New Zealand Land transport Rule: Vehicle Efficiency and Emissions Data 2022.
