The head-turning M2 is visually differentiated from 2-Series coupe models in several ways. It has a bullish front bumper with winglets that channel air to the engine’s cooling ducts; fenders that extend an extra 55mm at the front and 80mm at the back; and chrome surrounds on repeater lights ahead of the doors. From the rear you can admire double twin tailpipes and superbly muscular haunches.
Your ears will notice a difference too. The turbo undertone is enthralling, even when you’re just tootling around the city. Tap the accelerator or chop down a gear and you’ll hear the delightful pop and crackle of the exhaust. Very satisfying.
As with all BMWs, the M2 Coupe comes with sat-nav, a reversing camera and a reassuring five-year warranty.Book Your Test Drive
This is a driver’s car. A proper M that will reveal its pedigree the moment you touch the accelerator. And just wait till you try a corner at speed. Magic.
Powering the M2 Coupe is BMW's new 3-litre, six-cylinder inline petrol engine with M twin power turbo technology, which provides 272kW of power at 6500rpm and 465Nm of torque between 1400-5560rpm. The marvellous straight-six engine revs so keenly that the 7,000rpm red-line seems conservative. To cap it off, it has a top speed of 250km/h with 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds.
The M2 Coupe stays stable, even when there are bumps in the corners or an unusual camber to the road. To quote a famous UK reviewer: “…it’s fast no matter what yardstick you use. Round the Hockenheim racetrack in Germany it’s faster, apparently, than its bigger brothers. And that’s because it’s not just fast in a straight line. It’s also fast through the corners. And not just fast, but a complete delight”.
